Courtesy Pay With MSGCU Checking Accounts!

In today's busy world, there are a lot of things to worry about. Overdrawing your checking account doesn't have to be one of them. That's why we offer checking account members with our “Courtesy Pay” service, so that even if you accidentally overdraw your account, we've got you covered up to a designated amount based on your eligibility.

  • Avoid expensive merchant NSF fees
  • Protect your credit rating
  • Get peace of mind and financial breathing room

What Can Courtesy Pay Do for Me?

Anyone who has inadvertently had a check returned or ATM/Debit Card transaction denied knows how quickly a small mistake can turn into big consequences. First, there are substantial returned check fees charged by the merchant or creditor who receives your check. Then come the collection fees and embarrassing phone calls. Finally, the whole mess could be forwarded to a major credit reporting agency that may decide to lower your credit rating, potentially costing you hundreds of dollars in higher interest payments in the years ahead. Thanks to the MSGCU Courtesy Pay program, you can now avoid these problems or other electronic transactions.

How Does It Work?

If you're a member in good standing and qualify for this benefit, MSGCU will cover checks, Automatic Clearing House (ACH) items, and recurring Debit Card transactions that overdraw your personal checking account up to a designated amount based on your eligibility. To extend this benefit for ATM and one-time Debit transactions, please click here. For each check or other item that MSGCU pays, we charge a $28 fee. With our Courtesy Pay service, the merchant—and credit reporting agencies—will never know that you were overdrawn! We will notify you any time your Courtesy Pay service is activated. And, if you have a question about your account, you can view your account history online. To access our Internet Account Access, please click here.

Once your Courtesy Pay service has been activated to cover an overdraft, it is your responsibility to correct any balance deficiency as quickly as possible. MSGCU expects you to make a deposit covering your overdraft and fees within 16 days . After that time, our normal collection process begins. We trust you'll agree that it's important to promptly meet your financial obligations to preserve your good standing with the Credit Union and to prevent any collection activity.

Which Accounts Are Eligible?

All Primary checking accounts offered by MSGCU are eligible provided the account owners meet the eligibility requirements. The Money Market Checking account is not considered a Primary checking account and is not eligible for this service.

What Types of Payments Are Eligible for the Courtesy Pay Service?

Courtesy Pay services will be extended for checks presented at any MSGCU branch, checks clearing through the Federal Reserve System, payments clearing through an Automated Clearing House (ACH) and recurring Debit Card transactions. You must provide your affirmative consent for us to extend this benefit for ATM and one-time Debit transactions.

Who's Eligible?

Members in good standing, ages 18 and older with an open checking account are eligible for Courtesy Pay services with the following exceptions:

  • Anyone with a loan delinquent for more than 10 days.
  • Negative account conditions caused by utilizing overdraft services have not been brought current within 16 days.

What If I Already Have Overdraft Protection?

Your current overdraft protection arrangements will remain in place exactly as they are now. Courtesy Pay services will only be activated if there are insufficient funds available from your other accounts or line of credit.

How Do I Sign Up?
