This year has been challenging for small businesses. In appreciation for all the big things small businesses do to make our communities better, MSGCU gave more than $18,500 in cash prizes to local small businesses and patrons during our “Give the Gift of Local” giveaway.

After receiving nominations from MSGCU members and team members, the following 17 local businesses were randomly selected to receive $1,000. Plus, the member who nominated them also received a $100 gift card to spend there.

The Give the Gift of Local Giveaway is a prize-linked promotion offered by Michigan Schools & Government Credit Union (“MSGCU” or “Sponsor”) whereby you can nominate a deserving local small business to receive a $1,000 donation from MSGCU (the “Drawings”). The following Official Rules (“Official Rules”) apply to all persons submitting entries/nominations, all nominees and all prize recipients (collectively “Participants”).

By participating in the Drawings, Participants agree to abide by and be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of MSGCU, which shall be final and binding in all matters related to the Drawings.

Eligibility to Nominate a Small Business. In order to be eligible to nominate a small business to receive a prize, a Participant must, at the time of entry, be a legal resident of Michigan, aged 18 or older, and be either (a) a current member in good standing at MSGCU (“MSGCU Member”) or (b) a MSGCU employee or official, or a member of the household or an immediate family member of a MSGCU employee or official (“MSGCU Team Member”). Eligibility to Receive a Nomination. In order to be eligible to receive a nomination and be entered into the Drawings, a small business must be a non-franchised, independently owned business having less than 50 employees, having a current Employer Identification Number (EIN), and be located within Macomb, Oakland and/or Wayne Counties within a 10-mile radius of a MSGCU branch location (“Eligible Small Business”). Businesses organized as sole proprietorships, non-profits, medical or recreational manufacture, distribution or sale of marijuana; a business selling liquor or spirits in package form and/or selling beer, wine, and ale for off premises consumption; used car lot; bar or tavern (but not including a restaurant that serves beer, wine, and liquor); tattoo parlor; so called "head shop;" any establishment selling or exhibiting drug-related paraphernalia; pawn shop; bank; credit union; financial institution of any kind; check-cashing, short-term loan, payday loan or other similar business; an amusement or recreation establishment, including without limitation a pool hall, bowling alley, massage parlor, game center gambling establishment, establishment with electronic gaming machines, play house, night club; a business that sells or rents videotapes, DVDs, video games or other comparable items that have a rating above NC-17 (or other comparable classification), adult book store, or establishment featuring a male or female revue or any other similar or related uses; any combination of, or parking to support, any or all of the foregoing prohibited are not eligible for participation in the Drawings.

The Nomination Period will run from 9:00 a.m. on November 12, 2020 through 6:00 p.m. on December 11, 2020 ET In order to enter the Drawings, Participants must submit a fully completed nominating entry in the manner set forth in these Official Rules no later than 6:00 p.m. ET on December 11, 2020.

Participants meeting the eligibility requirements of these Official Rules may enter the Drawings by nominating a small business meeting the eligibility requirements set forth in these Official Rules. Nominations may be made by either: (a) completing the online nomination form at or (b) by mailing a letter with sufficient first class postage affixed, to MSGCU Business Development, 4555 Investment Drive, Troy, MI 48098. Nominating entries submitted by mail must contain the nominating Participant’s name, telephone number and email address; indicate whether Participant is an MSGCU Member or MSGCU Team Member and the MSGCU branch where Participant banks or works as applicable; the name of the Eligible Small Business Participant is nominating and the city in which it is located; and a short description of what Participant likes about the Eligible Small Business he/she is nominating for entry in the Drawings. All nominating entries must be received prior to 6:00 p.m. on December 11, 2020. Each completed nomination will generate one (1) entry into the Drawings. Participants cannot enter the same qualified business more than once per day. The particular drawing into which a nominating entry will be placed will be determined by the branch location associated with the MSGCU Member or MSGCU Team Member submitting the nominating entry. An Eligible Small Business may be nominated multiple times, but is eligible to win no more than one prize. MSGCU Members and MSGCU Team Members may submit multiple nominations, but no MSGCU Member or MSGCU Team Member is eligible to win no more than one prize.

The Drawings will consist of a total of 16 separate drawings as follows: MSGCU Member Drawings: There will be a separate drawing for each MSGCU branch location, for a total of fifteen (15) MSGCU Member Drawings. Each of these MSGCU Member Drawings will award a prize to a MSGCU Member and a prize to the Eligible Small Business nominated by that MSGCU Member, for a total of fifteen (15) MSGCU Member prizes and fifteen (15) Eligible Small Business prizes. MSGCU Team Member Drawing: There will be one drawing for all MSGCU Team Member entries. This MSGCU Team Member Drawing will award a prize to two (2) MSGCU Team Members and the Eligible Small Businesses nominated by those two (2) MSGCU Team Members, for a total of two (2) MSGCU Team Member prizes and two (2) Eligible Small Business prizes. Each Eligible Small Business, MSGCU Member and MSGCU Team Member is eligible to receive only one (1) prize. The winners will be selected by the random drawings described above from all eligible entries received by the Sponsor for each drawing. Sponsor’s decisions are final and binding. Drawings will be conducted on or about December 14, 2020, and notification to the winners will be made the same day. The winners will be contacted by the Sponsor at the email or telephone number provided with the nominating entry. If a potential winner cannot be contacted at the phone number provided with the entry within three business (3) days after the first attempt to contact him/her, the Sponsor may select an alternate potential winner at random from the remaining entries.

Sponsor makes no representations or warranties of any kind with respect to the Drawing. Any warranty, express or implied, is hereby excluded and disclaimed. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, misdirected, inaccurate, incomplete, undelivered, damaged, delayed, garbled, postage-due, or stolen mail or entries, or for any other errors or problems of any kind, whether typographical, printing, mechanical, human, electronic, or otherwise, relating to or in connection with the Drawing, including, without limitation, any error or problem that may occur in connection with the administration of the Drawing, the processing of nominating entries, the announcement of prizes, or in any Drawing-related materials. Nominating entries that have been tampered with or altered are void. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend part or all of the Drawing at any time without notice and for any reason. Without limiting the foregoing, if the operation or administration of this Drawing is impaired or incapable of running as planned for any reason, including but not limited to (a) infection by computer virus, bugs, (b) tampering or, unauthorized intervention, (c) fraud, (d) technical failures, or (e) any other causes beyond the control of the Sponsor which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Drawing, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to disqualify any Participant or other person who tampers with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Drawing in whole or in part, at any time, without notice and award the applicable prize(s) using all non-suspect eligible nominating entries received as of, or after (if applicable) such cancellation, termination, modification or suspension date, or in any manner that is fair and equitable and best conforms to the spirit of these Official Rules. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to disqualify any person or Participant deemed to be tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process and/or acting in violation of these Official Rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Caution: Any attempt by a Participant or any other person to damage or undermine the legitimate operation of the Drawing may be in violation of criminal and civil laws and, should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek any and all remedies available from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution. Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that or any other provision.

Odds of winning will depend on the total number of eligible nominating entries received throughout the Nomination Period. All eligible nomination entries entered into any drawing shall have an equal chance to win that drawing.

The Sponsor is providing a total of thirty four (34) prizes as follows: Seventeen (17) Eligible Small Businesses will receive a $1,000 donation. Fifteen (15) MSGCU Members will receive a $100 gift card if their nominating entry is selected. Two (2) MSGCU Team Members will receive a $50 gift card if their nominating entry is selected.

The potential prize winners are required to sign a Media/Publicity Release and return same to Sponsor within seven (7) business days of notification, or the prize may be forfeited and an alternate potential winner selected. In Sponsor’s sole discretion, if a potential prize winner cannot be notified, or if a potential prize winner fails to return a completed required document within the specified time period, or if a potential prize winner is not eligible under or in compliance with these Official Rules, then such person shall be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected for the prize at issue. The Sponsor reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to substitute the prize with another prize of equal or greater value in the event that the prize (or any component thereof) is not available as determined by the Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion.

Prize winners are solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes, and any expenses associated with the prize. Prize winners must provide all information necessary for Sponsor to make required tax reports. The failure of a prize winner to provide such information shall result in the prize being forfeited by prize winner.

By entering the Drawings and/or accepting a prize, each Participant agrees to hold Sponsor and its officers, directors, employees, shareholders, representatives, and agents (the “Indemnified Parties”) harmless from any and all liability whatsoever in connection with the Drawings, including without limitation, legal claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages, demands with respect to (a) any errors that may prevent a person from submitting an entry; (b) unauthorized human intervention in the Drawings; (c) printing errors; (d) errors in the administration of the Drawings or the processing of entries; (e) injury, death, or damage to persons or property which may be caused , directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from participation in the Drawings or receipt of any prize; (f) all claims based on publicity rights, defamation, us of image of likeness and/or breach of any right of privacy; or (g) any other claims or actions of any kind (collectively “Claims”). Except where prohibited by law, acceptance of a prize constitutes a release by the prize winner of any and all claims in connection with the administration of the Drawings and the use, misuse or possession of any prize. This limitation of liability is a comprehensive limitation of liability that applies to all damages of any kind, including (without limitation) compensatory, direct, indirect, or consequential damages; loss of data, income or profit; loss of damage to property; and claims of third parties.


Each Participant consents and agrees to permit Sponsor to use his/her/its name, photo, voice, likeness and/or city of residence on promotional and other materials via all forms of media now known or hereafter devised worldwide, in perpetuity, without any further or additional notice, attribution, permission or compensation (other than prizes won) to the Participant, his/her/its successors or assigns, or any other entity except where prohibited by law. Each Participant also agrees that his/her/its name and/or prize may be revealed to other Participants upon request.

Except where prohibited, all issues/questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of the participants, prize winners, the Indemnified Parties and Sponsor in connection with the Drawings shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Michigan and applicable Federal law. Any dispute arising between Sponsor and any Participant and/or any dispute concerning Sponsor’s administration of the Drawings shall likewise be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the substantive laws of the state of Michigan and applicable Federal law. The Drawings are void where and to the extent prohibited by law.

Except where prohibited by law, as a condition of participating in the Drawings, Participants agree that (1) any and all disputes and causes of action arising out of or connected with the Drawings, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by final and binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association and held at the AAA regional office nearest the participant; (2) the Federal Arbitration Act shall govern the interpretation, enforcement and all proceedings at such arbitration; and (3) judgment upon such arbitration award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction. Under no circumstances will participants be permitted to obtain awards for, and Participants hereby waive all rights to claim, punitive, incidental or consequential damages, or any other damages, including attorneys' fees, other than Participants actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e., costs associated with participating in the Drawings), and Participants further waive all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.

Sponsor reserves the right to amend these Official Rules or discontinue, modify, revise or amend the Drawings at any time. Sponsor disclaims any responsibility to notify Participants of any aspect related to the conduct of the Drawings. Written copies of these Official Rules are available during normal business hours at any MSGCU branch location.

All information submitted will be treated according to Sponsor’s Privacy Policy, available at By participating in the Drawings and providing your contact information, all Participants agree to Sponsor’s collection and usage of their personal information and acknowledge that they have agreed to be bound by Sponsor’s Privacy Policy.
