MSGCU to Award $45,000 in Grants to Local Teachers
Classroom Cash Grants application period runs through October 1

September 1, 2021 - Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) is pleased to announce that their popular Classroom Cash Grants program is now accepting grant proposals from local teachers. Through the program’s 16 years, MSGCU has provided more than half a million dollars in grants, funding more than 900 important learning experiences in classrooms across metro Detroit.

The program begins September 1 with teachers submitting their project ideas and finishes with a public vote in October. Projects with the most votes receive grants.

Teachers are invited to submit grant proposals for up to $750 through October 1. In total, the 2021 Classroom Cash Grants program will award $45,000 in grants.

During the voting period from October 15-25, students, parents, colleagues, and members of the school and local community can show their support by voting for their favorite projects through the online voting process on www.classroomcash.org.

“Teachers have a profound impact on the lives of students and the community in which we live,” Peter Gates, MSGCU President/CEO, said. “As a Credit Union founded by teachers, we are excited to be able to provide funding for materials, equipment and other resources necessary to carry out educational projects that would otherwise not be covered by a school’s budget. With Classroom Cash Grants, we can help make these essential projects a reality for teachers and their students.”

The MSGCU Classroom Cash Grants program is open to all teachers that reside or work in Michigan. Teachers can be educators serving in public, private, parochial or charter schools. Previous Classroom Cash Grant recipients and entrants may also reapply.

Recipients must either be a member of MSGCU or become a member of MSGCU before receipt of the grant. Teachers can also take advantage of other MSGCU programs that include loans designed for classroom purchases, a variety of scholarships, and financial literacy programs designed to meet curriculum needs.
