Rochester High School has launched a course called Educational Careers. This is a class for current high school students who are interested in becoming educators. This course is run like an introduction to education class at the college level. Students are put in field placements to work with teachers in the district for a year long internship. In this role students are creating bulletin boards, interactive activities for math, science, reading, social studies, and community building. They will make manipulatives, hand outs, sample projects for elementary students, and a teaching portfolio. To better equip them for these projects we as a class would like to make a teacher work station in our classroom for them to use. It would have a specific place where students are able to create items they need for their internship. This would not only benefit the high school student interns but the students they work with directly. It provides equity of access to materials for all students.
