Congratulations to our Stephen Thomas First Responder Scholarship Honorees!

 

The Stephen Thomas First Responder Scholarship is named in honor of the late Stephen E. Thomas, who served on the MSGCU Board for 21 years. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, a retired Sergeant of the Macomb County Sheriff Department, and retired as the Administrator of the Special Investigation Unit for Michigan Basic Property Insurance Association.

This scholarship recognizes outstanding cadets enrolled in the fire, police, and/or paramedic programs at Macomb Community College, Oakland Community College, Washtenaw Community College, and Schoolcraft College.

In 2025, there were 14 scholarships available for recipients. To expand support for new paramedic programs, eight $2,000 Stephen Thomas First Responder Scholarships were added in 2026 and MSGCU will award 22 scholarships throughout this year.
