CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI – Jan. 5, 2026 – Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union is accepting applications for its annual scholarship program now through February 27. The credit union is awarding over $150,000 in scholarships, including 43 scholarships of $2,500 each to help local students and educators. MSGCU is also providing 22 scholarships of $2,000 each to future first responders, which is an increase of eight scholarships this year.
“MSGCU is funding additional scholarships for first responders, including new scholarships for students in paramedic programs, to help more individuals reach their career goals of serving and protecting our communities,” said Steve Brewer, MSGCU President/CEO. “We are pleased to have awarded over $1.3 million through all of our scholarship offerings since the program started 20 years ago, helping nearly 700 recipients complete their education.”
Scholarship applications can be submitted online at msgcu.org/scholarships. MSGCU will award the following scholarships to students with various career paths such as skilled trades, and teachers and administrators who are continuing their education:
William Cayen Skilled Trades Scholarship – Two $2,500 awards
Supports students pursuing certification in electrical, HVAC, automotive, or other industrial and advanced technologies or skilled trades programs. Awards are offered to current skilled trades students or graduating high school seniors planning to pursue a skilled trades certificate.
Rudolph Heino People Helping People Scholarship – 15 $2,500 awards
Helps high school seniors heading to college with a demonstrated commitment to helping others. New this year, one recipient will be designated, “In Memory of Taylor Jade DeRosa,” in recognition of Taylor's legacy of compassion for others.
Larry Swantek Educational Studies Scholarship – Four $2,500 awards
Benefits high school seniors and current college students planning to become teachers.
Milo Perreault Educator Advancement Scholarship – Four $2,500 awards
Helps certified teachers and administrators continue their education.
MSGCU High School Excellence Scholarship – 18 $2,500 awards
Supports high school seniors with plans to attend college.
Stephen Thomas First Responder Scholarship – 22 $2,000 awards
Benefits first responders enrolled in police, fire, and/or paramedic academies at local colleges. MSGCU will provide 22 scholarships, an increase of eight awards this year that includes three new scholarship offerings for paramedic students. Applications occur directly with Macomb Community College, Oakland Community College, Washtenaw Community College, and Schoolcraft College. Students can apply for this scholarship throughout the year and more information is available through the program directors of each academy.
Non-members are welcome to apply for an MSGCU scholarship and must become a member if selected as a scholarship recipient.
