MSGCU to Award $45,000 in Classroom Cash Grants

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Sept. 7, 2022 – Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) is now accepting applications from local teachers for its popular Classroom Cash Grants program. Throughout the initiative’s 17-year history, MSGCU has awarded more than $580,000 in grants, funding over 1,000 innovative classroom experiences that required external financial support.

The 2022 application period is open now through Oct. 3 at 8 a.m., and Michigan teachers can submit creative project ideas on ClassroomCash.org. Educators will describe how the innovative concept will enhance their students’ learning experience for a chance to receive a grant of up to $750. After the application period closes, community members can vote for their favorite projects from Oct. 13-23 using the Classroom Cash Grants website. The projects with the most votes will receive grants and winners will be announced in early November. The 2021 program gathered more than 110,000 votes from local community members hoping to see their favorite ideas win.

“Teachers have a profound impact on the lives of students and the communities where we live,” said Peter Gates, MSGCU President/CEO. “As a Credit Union founded by teachers, we are excited to provide funding for materials, equipment, and other resources necessary to carry out educational projects that otherwise wouldn’t be covered by school budgets. With Classroom Cash Grants, we can help make these essential projects a reality for teachers and students.”

The MSGCU Classroom Cash Grants program is open to all teachers that reside or work in Michigan. Educators can serve in public, private, parochial, or charter schools. Previous Classroom Cash Grant recipients and entrants may reapply with new projects. Non-members may apply for a grant, but must become a member to receive one. Teachers can also take advantage of other MSGCU programs, including loans designed for classroom purchases, a variety of scholarships, and financial literacy programs that support curriculum needs.
