Habitat Volunteers Building a House

It's an amazing feeling to call a place home. Home is where the heart is. Home is where life begins and where memories are made. The Troy team wanted to help in a way that will last a lifetime.

Vivian S., MSGCU Assistant Branch Manager

For the fourth year, the Troy Branch has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County. Habitat for Humanity seeks to help make the dream of a home a reality for people in local neighborhoods. Every year, MSGCU employees are excited to roll up their sleeves and do some hands-on work to rake, weed, scrape, hammer, sweep, haul, and paint homes in the community.

"Not all causes can be fixed by opening your wallet. Sometimes, you need to get your hands dirty, too," said Julie D., an MSGCU team member. "By volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, I was quickly reminded that if you want to make a difference, it’s not always going to be easy…but it will always be rewarding."

Each year, MSGCU provides both financial support and financial education to Habitat for Humanity homeowners. A $1,000 check is presented to Habitat for Humanity for continued support in home rebuilding and the building of better futures. Additionally, MSGCU financial educators hosts classes to build financial know-how among the new homeowners.

In 2017, eighteen MSGCU team members volunteered at the Rock the Block event in Pontiac. Each of them took home a little extra dirt, a lot of sweat, sore muscles, and a good feeling in their heart. MSGCU looks forward to volunteering at additional Oakland County Habitat events in the future.
